Apple Pie Hand Pies

This recipe is one that I usually make for my niece and she loves it. Since I am not a good baker this is the one, fast and easy. This recipe usually makes 8-10 pies.


  1. 2-3 gala apples or apple of choice
  2. ½ cup granulated sugar
  3. ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon 
  4. ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  5. Frozen disco dough for empanadas thawed
  6. 1 cup of water
  7. 2-3 inches of vegetable oil/ enough to cover the frying 

Preparation and Assembly

Apple pie Filling

  1. Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into bite-size pieces
  2. In a saucepan bring the cup of water and apples to boil in medium heat until  apples have absorbed most of the water 
  3. Add sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg and continue to cook for 10 to 15 minutes 
  4. When the water has been completely absorbed and apples are cooked to an amber color
  5. Remove and set aside to cool

Assembling and cooking:

1.Place pastelito disc/ dough in a flat and dry surface

2.Fill each circle with about 2 tablespoons of the apples.  

3.Moisten the edges of the circle with some water on your fingers.  Fold over and seal.  Use a fork to crimp the edges of the pies together.

4.For frying add oil in frying pan and once oil is hot enough, add the apple pies and fry on both sides

5. Fry pies until golden brown, remove and drain in paper towels 

Once pies are drained, you can enjoy it alone or with ice cream on the side
